Dear Parents,
I wanted to make you aware of our next teaching series that begins Sunday, April 10 and continues through May 15. The Edge and Jr. High Ministry will be doing a series entitled “The Talk.” Obviously, we have a wide range of ages from 5th-8th grade and we plan on teaching age–appropriate material to each group. Students of all ages are bombarded with the culture's messages of wrong choices, gender, dating and sex, but likely have little exposure to the biblical view. This series certainly won't answer all their questions (in fact, it may serve to raise a bunch of new ones), but it will expose your student to a biblical understanding of God's plan for sex, dating, gender, pornography and choices, where society has gone wrong, and what a student can do about it all.
We want to reassure you that, though we will encourage open and honest discussion and do welcome any questions your son or daughter may have, we are committed to presenting biblical truths, steering students towards a Godly view of dating, and honoring your sacred role as parents. The following is a list of what each ministry will be teaching on and when.
The Edge and Jr. High will be teaching the following topics on the following Sundays:
April 10: Let’s talk about girls. Who a girl is.
April 17: Let’s talk about guys. Who a guy is.
April 24: Let’s talk about sex. Sex is good and sex is powerful.
May 1: Preview Sunday–current 4th and 5th graders will have a lesson not related to “The Talk” series. Current 6th and 7th graders’ topic is Let’s talk about sexting. What happens online stays online. Current 8th graders wil be previewing the high school ministry and they will be talking about homosexuality.
May 8: Let’s Talk about pornography. What happens in seceret can cause separation.
May 15: Let’s talk about boundaries. Guardrails and boundaries protect you.
During this series, we will be highlighting resources for you as a parent so you can continue the conversation at home. You can find these resources on The Edge and Jr. High websites. We know this topic can be difficult to talk about with your student, it’s difficult for us too! Due to our oversexualized culture we need to be having these discussions earlier and earlier. If you have any questions, or you would like to see the lessons we will be using, please call Sandy Hughes or Darcie Gripp at the church office.
Thank you for the privilege of being a small part of your student’s journey toward a deeper and more mature faith.
Living In The Grip Of His Grace,
Sandy Hughes Darcie Gripp
