This Week

Element this week, we review with the Greatest Commandment (Matthew 22:34-37). Our greatest responsibility is something very good: loving Someone who loved us first and loves us most—so much He willingly sacrificed for us. When we choose to love God more than anything else, our other responsibilities (like using our stuff, choosing our words and acting to help others) are much easier to live out. When we get the relationship part right, being responsible is a natural expression of our love. Bottom Line: I can be trusted when I put God first.  Download GodTime

July and August bring you opportunity to serve in Kids Ministry. Although there are a gazillion blessings in serving, I have listed 3 for you to consider:

• Lead your child and exemplify the heart of a servant.
• Love those who serve your kids in the school year by giving them a break in the summer.
• Learn - get to know the friends in your childs small group, as well as experience the fun of how the Kids Ministry team works together to make Sunday mornings "the best hour of the week" 

 

Incoming Kindergartners and 1st Graders In Element

In order to keep up with the large class size in Pre-K/K, and give age appropriate lessons to all groups, we will open up the Element to include Kindergartners.  Like Elementary School, our “Element” ministry will now consist of  grades K - 4th.  If you have a child entering Kindergarten in fall they will advance to Element on June 10th.

Baby Dedication is a commitment before the Lord to submit your child to God's will and to raise your child according to God's Word and God's ways. Baby Dedication

This week in Element were discovering  in our Bible story that our words matter.  (Ephesians 4:29) Do we encourage others with our words? We'll focus on the part of the verse that talks about "building others up according to their needs." We can become trusted people in the way that we talk to people in addition to using the stuff God gives us to be responsibile.

Showing responsibility with the small things will help others see we can be trusted with big things. One of the best things we can do for our relationships is the choose our words carefully.  Then our relationships get strong and we have even more opportunities to be responisible. Like our Memory Verse says, "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much." Luke 16:10.  Download GodTime

We have some changes:  As most of you know, Kian Kawar, our Early Childhood Coordinator has recently stepped down.  She has been greatly blessed serving on the North Campus Staff for almost 2 years.  With her kids growing and the many exciting transistions going on in her family, she feels it important to make more time at home.  She will be missed but you will still she her around from time to time.

We have some exciting news:  We have a new Early Childhood Coordinator.  Abby Bowers has served at CPC within Children's Ministry since 2009. She was raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Abby attended Canada College and studied Early Childhood Development. She has worked as a lead Preschool Teacher for the past four years and is excited to take on the role as the new CPC North Early Childhood Development Coordinator. Abby is excited to partner with parents and to lead the littlest ones of CPC to grow and follow Christ.

Story Summary:  This week we learn about Daniel and his three friends that obey God and eat what He tells them to eat rather than eating the king's food. God blesses them with strength and good health.  Daniel 1:1-16

BathTime:  Want a fun song to sing while you give your little one a bath?  Sing the memory verse for this month, Isaiah 1:17, to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell.  "Learn to do what's right. Learn to do what's right.  Isaiah 1:17.  Learn to do what's right."  Sing this song often throughout the month.  You and your little one will have this verse memorized in no time!

This Month in Element: 

God doesn't want for us to move through life simply truting Him, He wants us to become more like Him by showing others that we can be trusted as well.  Every day, we have opportunities to take what God has given to us - our stuff, our words, our relationships- and use them wisely.  When we respond to God with the abilities He has given to us, we are responsible. And when we are responsible with a little bit, the Bible says we will be given more: more opportunities, more relationships, more ways that we can use what God has given us to reflect His character to the world around us.

This week: we're discovering our  Bible story is the Parable Of the Talents, ( Matthew 25:14-30)  this is key for the whole month because it talks about being responsible with our stuff -both our money and our gifting.  Everyone's been given something so what what should we do to best invest it?  We'll see how the worst thing is to sit on it or just save it for later.  Bottom Line: I can be trusted when I make the most of what God has given to me.

Story Summary:  This week we continue with Joseph's story and his brothers come to Egypt looking for food.  Joseph forgives them and he is reunited with his family.  Genesis 42:1-6; 45:1-46:7

Car Time:  Talk aloud, as you drive, about the right things you are doing.  "I'm stopping at the stop sign because it's the right thing.  I'm driving very carefully because it's the right thing.  I'm wearing a seatbelt because it's the right thing."  Continue to point out the right things you are doing throughout the day.  Maybe your little one will begin to do the same.

Play Time:  A fun way to learn to do what is right is by cooking together.  A simple cookie or muffin recipe will do.  Make sure to teach your child how to wash his hands, follow each step of the recipe, and clean up when he's done.  Share with your child that you want him to learn to do what is right and follow what God says, just like following a recipe will teach him the right thing to do.

This Week

Element

For the last week in April,  we’ll see how after Jesus left (and sent the Holy Spirit), His closest friends, the disciples, continued the ministry He started while He was on earth. They were busy living like He taught them and sharing with others this big story—the gospel—that they had experienced for themselves, so the people of the world could know about God and be part of the story themselves.

So, we fast-forward to a Bible story of two of the better-known disciples, Peter and John. They were performing miracles and they got in trouble by people that were jealous and threatened. Things were changing and they didn’t like it. Some of the more powerful leaders of the day, called the Sanhedrin, really wanted to stop them (Acts 4:1-21, 1 Peter 3:15).

We’ll take time to talk about how, Bottom Line: Whatever happens, tell others what God has done. This is one of the five faith skills that we think is most important for children’s (and adults’) spiritual growth—being able to articulate their faith. But by the end of this month, after being reminded of all God has done and is doing in our lives, it will be natural for them to share the hope they have with others. Download GodTime Devotional

 May 6th - Family Worship 

 Worship Jesus and celebrate communion with your family.  This day happens once a month, and is a great time for your children to experience parents singing and learning about the Lord. Kids get wiggly  (we get that) so we provide a packet that focuses on the days lesson, as well as a quiet hands on activity.  Family worship puts onto the hearts of children an invisible imprint,  one of parents authentically expressing devotion to God in unity with the body of believers.  Worshiping as a family brings lasting legacy.

Element

This week  we learn more about what Jesus said to His loyal disciples before He returns to His Father in heaven (Matthew 28:16-20, Acts 1:3, 8-11). It’s easy to imagine that the disciples felt a little desperate and were hanging on every word and second left, wondering what would happen to them after He leaves. Bottom Line: Whatever happens, remember Jesus is always with you.

We can relate to this when negative things happen in our lives and we feel alone or powerless. That’s when it’s most important to remember that Jesus promises that He’s leaving something better—the Holy Spirit—so we’re never really alone. God never promised that if we love Him that we won’t ever have any problems. But Jesus promises to be with us.

 

Another Chance!

We've decided to give another chance to the kids who didn't attend Sunday School or forgot their Godtime from the Easter Egg Hunt Challenge.  This week, remember to encourage your child to do their  GodTime devotional. When they bring the completed page to church on Sunday, they will be entered into a drawing for Nubi and Baskin Robbins gift cards.  Yum!

Basic Truth:  Jesus Wants to be My Friend Forever

Key Question:  Who is your friend?

Bottom Line:  Jesus is my good friend

Story Summary:  This week we tell the story of a woman with very few friends humbles herself at the feet or Jesus.  She expresses her love for Him by washing His feet with her tears and perfume.  While others reject her gift of love, Jesus praises her for it.  Luke 7:36-50

 Bath Time:  As you wash your child's lettle feet, talk about how the woman washed Jesus' feet.  It was her way of showing Jesus how much she loved Him.  After dry your child off, rub him down with some lotion that smells "oh so good."  Talk about how the woman showed Jesus even more love when she poured the perfume all over His feet.

This Week

Element

This, we see that some of the disciples and other people that knew Jesus were still confused by all that had happened—by the way things turned out. We read about how Jesus joins two guys walking on the road to Emmaus. And later at dinner as Jesus breaks bread, they realize who He is and what’s really happening (Luke 24:13-35, Romans 15:4). Bottom Line: Whatever happens, remember God has a bigger story.

These men had a lot of their facts straight, but Jesus helps them to connect the dots. They’d lost hope. They were so focused on the fact that Jesus died, that they couldn’t see what God was doing through and because of it. We do this too in dark and confusing moments—we focus so much on the negative things that have happened, that we stop having hope.

But when we remember and believe that this month’s memory verse is true—“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world,” John 16:33b—we’re not so caught off guard when things go wrong. We’re more able to see what God might be up to and believe that He wants what’s best for us in the end.

Easter Egg Hunt Challenge

The Easter Egg Hunt Challenge was a ton of fun!  If your family didn't make it to church, it's not to late for your child to turn in their signed GodTime card, memorize John 3:16-17, or invite a friend to church. Any one of these or all three will get their name into a drawing for some cool prizes.

Story Summary:  This week we tell the story of when Jesus visits His two good friends Mary and Martha.  Martha is busy cleaning while Mary spends time with Jesus.  Martha learns that only one thing is needed and that is spending time with her good friend, Jesus.

 Cuddle Time:  Cuddle up with your child and pray with him.  "Dear God, thank You for giving us our good friend, Jesus.  He's the best friend ever!  Thank you for all the ways He shows us love every day.  We love You, God.  Amen."

He is Risen!

This Week:

In Element this week, we're discovering, that even when things seem at their darkest, hope is believing that something good can come out of something bad. The best story in all of history to show this truth is Easter - when our Savior returns.  Jesus surprised everyone and comes back to life after dying on the cross and being buried in the  tomb - three days later (John 20:1-18)

Jesus is all the evidence that we need to believe that God can do anything and He keeps his promises. And if God kept His promise about Jesus, then there's nothing God can't or won't do to give us hope.

 Bottom Line: Whatever happens, God is stronger than anything.  It going to be a powerful Sunday!

Remember to encourage your child to spend time with the Lord. GodTime

Next week begins our new 9:15  Element class. Children will be blessed with the same "Best hour of the Week" experience as the 11:00 service.  For the ideal small group experience and community building, it is recommended to bring your child to one service regularly.

Story Summary:  This week we will be doing a resurrection Easter egg hunt with your kids.  Along with little treats and prizes, they will find 12 special eggs (each with a number from 1 - 12).  We will open them and tell them the REAL story of Easter!

Play Time :  Make some Resurrection Eggs of your own at home.  Here is how you do it...

To make your own Resurrection Eggs:

#1 – Bread or small cracker pieces – For the last meal Jesus ate with His friends (Passover) Mark 14:22 or Luke 22:14

#2 – Rooster (feather) – Jesus predicted that Peter would lie three different times and say he didn’t know Jesus by the time the rooster crowed. – Matthew 26:33

#3 – 3 silver dimes - Judas betrays Jesus for 30 pieces of silver money. Luke 22:3-5, Luke 22:47-52


#4 – Thorns – People were mad that Jesus said He was the Son of God, so they made a crown of pointy thorns to put on His head – Matthew 27:29-31 and Mark 15:17

#5 – Nails – Jesus was nailed to a cross. They left Him hanging there until He died, even though He hadn’t done anything wrong. Matthew 27:31 and Luke 23:33 and Luke 23:40-41

#6 – The Cross -  They placed His cross on a hill between two other men who were criminals.

#7 – Dice – When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and played a game to decide who would get his clothes – John 19:23-24

#8 – Spear – Use a toothpick to symbolize that one of the soldiers pierced Jesus side.

#9 – White cloth –(Use cheesecloth or other small scrap) After Jesus died, His friends wrapped Him up with cloth and lay Him in a special cave, a tomb. Luke 23:53 and Matthew 27:57-60

#10 – Cinnamon Sticks – Three women brought special spices to anoint Jesus body. Mark 16:1

#11 – Stone (small pebble) – The people who had kidded Jesus put a large rock over the mouth of the tomb, to make sure that no one could get Jesus out. Matthew 27: 62-65 and Matthew 28:66

#12 – Empty!! – Three days later, the huge rock was moved and Jesus was gone from the tomb. An angel said He was alive again! This day is what we celebrate on Easter Sunday because Jesus was raised to life again and lives today!  Luke 24:3, 6 and Matthew 28:2-6

This Sunday in Element: 

HOPE is the one thing the church has always had to offer the world!

This month, we’re focused on how we can have hope because of all that God has done. We have a chance every day to respond with hope to show that we trust God and His plan for the world. And the people around us (including our children) are watching to see where, and what, and whom we put our hope in.

Our theme this month is Puzzled: Believing There’s a Bigger Picture. In all of our lives, there are times when we can only see one piece of what’s going on, and it can be hard to picture something good coming out of it. 

As we get ready to celebrate Easter, we’ll define HOPE as believing that something good can come out of something bad. We’ll look at five different Bible stories focusing on Jesus and some of the people who knew Him best.

 This Sunday, in our Bible story (John 14:1-14, 18-19, 27-29), we’ll lean in to listen as Jesus talks to His closest friends with whom He’s done ministry for the last few years. These were some of the last words they’d hear Him say and they were about heaven and being together again someday. Bottom Line: Whatever happens, remember what Jesus promised.

Story Summary:  The people clebrate Jesus as He enters Jerusalem riding a donkey.  They praise Him shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David!"  as they wave tree branches in the air.  Matthew 21:1-16

Play Time:  Go outisde and have a praise parade with your child.  Grab a small leaf or branch from a tree or bush, and do like the people did when Jesus entered Jerusalem riding a donkey.  They waved their branches in the air and shouted "Hosanna!"  Cheer for Jesus as you march around your yard.  Shout out, "Hosanna!  Yay Jesus!"
